Features: The University of Cambridge is a world-renowned higher education institution. The Cambridge ESOL (English as a Foreign Language) Testing Center is a prestigious language proficiency assessment organization, directly affiliated with the University of Cambridge Local Examinations Syndicate (UCLES), the largest educational assessment body in the UK. The Cambridge ESOL examination program is widely recognized by tens of thousands of educational institutions and employers worldwide. The English as a Foreign Language examinations it provides are broadly accepted as valid proof for purposes such as further education, employment, etc. Since its inception in 1913, it has introduced a series of examinations and services, including the Business English Certificate (BEC), the Business Language Testing Service (BULATS), the Certificate in English Language Studies (MSE), Young Learners English (YL), and the Certificate in English Language Teaching to Teachers ( CELTA). Currently, it has test centers in over 130 countries worldwide, with over 1.5 million people taking Cambridge ESOL examinations each year. Cambridge ESOL is supported by continuous research. The members of the ESOL department are composed of experts and researchers with extensive knowledge in applied linguistics and teaching practice. They are responsible for designing examinations and courses, providing relevant materials, organizing training programs, and conducting ongoing research on all aspects of the examinations. This ensures that ESOL examinations and courses are continuously improved, teaching and examination techniques are enhanced, and the examinations maintain a high level of scientific rigor, authority, and stability, enjoying a strong reputation internationally.
The Cambridge English Skills Certificate (CELS) examination system is designed for non-native English speakers aged 16 and above. It was developed by the Cambridge ESOL Testing Center after thorough and comprehensive research into the English learning needs of over 100 non-English-speaking countries worldwide. It is a complete and independent English certificate examination system composed of four separate skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. It was officially launched globally in May 2002. CELS differs from other Cambridge ESOL certificate examination systems in its unique features. It takes into account the diverse practical needs of examinees, separates the four skills of English—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—into independent teaching modules and assessment methods, and ultimately awards certificates in each of the four English skills to qualified candidates. The purpose of CELS is to provide greater flexibility for examinees, allowing them to choose skills that offer higher advantages and better suit their potential, or select skills that are relevant to their careers and work to take the examination and obtain the certificate. This design caters to multiple needs, enabling examinees to participate in English skill learning, examinations, or examination levels that are most beneficial to them.
With China's increasing internationalization, people in daily work and life need to selectively highlight their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in English. CELS examinations are specifically designed to meet this demand, enabling individuals in different professions to enhance their job capabilities and achieve career advancement and salary increases through CELS certification. I believe that the CELS English Skills Certificate program will have even broader development potential in China's English training market. Currently, the CELS Cambridge English Skills Certificate course has been introduced and published by Economic Science Press, adding a new Cambridge ESOL examination training material to the rapidly growing English teaching and training market. It is hoped that this course will help a wide range of English learners improve their individual English skills, obtain the CELS Cambridge English Skills Certificate, and gain widespread popularity among English teaching institutions and learners.
