Features: Stem cells have become one of the most prominent topics in life science research in recent years due to their high plasticity and potential applications in tissue and organ transplantation, cell therapy, tissue engineering, new drug screening, and reproductive and genetic engineering. This book is an academic monograph on stem cell technology, which comprehensively reflects the existing theoretical foundations and applied research in this field to date. It not only reviews the latest achievements and methods in international stem cell basic and applied research but also specifically introduces the original work of stem cell researchers in China and the current state of stem cell research in the country. The content of the book is mainly divided into the following four parts:
Part 1: Introduction to Stem Cell Principles
This part introduces the fundamental theoretical knowledge of stem cells, detailing the biological characteristics, biochemical foundations, and research progress of various types of stem cells, including embryonic stem cells, adult stem cells, mesenchymal stem cells, hematopoietic stem cells, neural stem cells, skin stem cells, muscle stem cells, adipose stem cells, endothelial progenitor cells, liver stem cells, pancreatic stem cells, small intestinal mucosal stem cells, ectomesenchymal stem cells, and tumor stem cells, each discussed in separate chapters.
Part 2: Stem Cell-Related Experimental Techniques
This part summarizes routine laboratory techniques for studying various types of stem cells, including mesenchymal stem cells, covering stem cell isolation, culture, identification, and in vitro expansion technologies.
Part 3: Stem Cells and Clinical Applications
This part selectively discusses the current clinical research status and application prospects of the aforementioned stem cells in fields such as hematological diseases, immunological diseases, neurological diseases, musculoskeletal diseases, cardiovascular diseases, and diabetes and plastic surgery. It incorporates the autonomous achievements of numerous domestic researchers.
Part 4: Appendices
This part provides a substantive introduction to the entire systematic process of stem cell research from basic studies to industrial development. By analyzing and comparing domestic and international policies and regulations and combining experience accumulated in the industrialization process of scientific research achievements, it describes many key stages of stem cell industrialization. This offers valuable insights for China's stem cell industrial development and management, which is a distinctive feature of the book. Additionally, the book includes a bilingual glossary (Chinese-English) and a comprehensive index for easy reference.
This book serves as a comprehensive and systematic reference for researchers, clinical professionals, and graduate students engaged in stem cells, tissue engineering, regenerative medicine, and life science and medical research in China. It also holds significant value for entrepreneurs in the biotechnology field, government departments responsible for formulating policies and standardization procedures, and readers interested in stem cell knowledge and the development of this industry.
