Walking with the Civil Code (Volume 1)

Author: Wang Liming

Publish Date: 2006-12-01
Features: This book is a compilation of recordings from the author's lectures over the past five years at various institutions, including his own university, affiliated institutions, and courts. In the field of law, publishing lecture recordings or transcripts has positive significance: on one hand, although lecture transcripts tend to be more colloquial, good ones are often easy to understand and engaging, making them more accessible to readers than academic monographs. On the other hand, speakers often address major, challenging, or cutting-edge issues in academic or judicial practice, making their content highly targeted. Compared to systematic academic monographs, the content of lectures is more focused and concise, allowing listeners to better grasp the essence of the speaker's academic insights and the agility of their thinking.
What is most important is that while high-quality academic monographs are indeed needed to delve deeply into the forefront of legal theory, the author believes that, in a certain sense, it is also necessary to adopt some means to popularize legal concepts, particularly those of civil law, among the public so that they can actively participate in our rule-of-law construction efforts. Therefore, lecture works are also needed by society. This small book dedicated to readers somewhat records some of the author's lecture content from various parts of the country over the years, or perhaps it can be said to document the author's trajectory and fragments of civil law thinking in recent years. However, the book is not arranged in chronological order of the lectures, as doing so would inevitably lead to repetition and lack of organization. Thus, in terms of its structure, although this book is a collection of lectures, it is still organized by specific topics to facilitate reading.
