Features: Czerny's Op. 823 "The Little Pianist," as the title suggests, is a set of practice pieces written exclusively for young beginners, totaling 73 pieces. The first half contains 44 pieces, while the second half has 29 pieces. Between the two parts, there are exercises for 12 major and minor scales. This collection can serve as a supplementary textbook to Czerny's Op. 599 "A Progressive Course in Piano Study." Alternatively, it can be used as a teaching material after completing Bach's "Well-Tempered Clavier," often paired with "Sonatinas."
Carl Czerny (1791–1857), an outstanding Austrian pianist, educator, and composer, was born in Vienna. He began learning the piano from his father at a young age and later studied with Beethoven for three years. Czerny devoted himself to researching the piano teaching methods of his predecessors and became a renowned piano teacher by the age of 15. Czerny's Op. 823 "The Little Pianist," as mentioned earlier, is a collection of 73 practice pieces designed specifically for young beginners. The first half consists of 44 pieces, and the second half has 29 pieces, with exercises for 12 major and minor scales in between. Overall, the collection is arranged to start easy and gradually increase in difficulty. For this reason, the first 40 pieces are written entirely in the treble clef, with the bass clef only appearing from the 41st piece. Additionally, no accidentals are used in the first 44 pieces. This collection can serve as a supplementary textbook to Czerny's Op. 599 "A Progressive Course in Piano Study." Alternatively, it can be used as a teaching material after completing Bach's "Well-Tempered Clavier," often paired with "Sonatinas."
