Why hasn't the jaundice of the newborn who is 22 days old subsided?

Patient's question:

How long does it take to recover? Please help me! Why hasn't the jaundice in a 22-day-old newborn gone away? Is there a good solution? Please give advice from a doctor.

Doctor's answer:

Jaundice is a common clinical symptom during the neonatal period. Neonatal jaundice is divided into two types: physiological and pathological. If a newborn with jaundice has any of the following conditions, it should be considered pathological jaundice: ① Early onset of jaundice: Full-term infants develop jaundice within 24 hours after birth, and preterm infants develop jaundice within 48 hours; ② Severe degree of jaundice: Serum bilirubin exceeds the average value of normal infants of the same age, or rises by more than 85.5 μmol/L (5 mg/dL) daily; ③ Prolonged duration of jaundice (full-term infants lasting more than 2 weeks, preterm infants lasting more than 3 weeks), or reappearance of jaundice after it has subsided; ④ Jaundice accompanied by other clinical symptoms, or serum conjugated bilirubin greater than 25.7 μmol/L (1.5 mg/dL). It is recommended to continue monitoring.
