Residential Special (Part 1)

Features: The inspiration for this article stems from the noticeable differences between domestic and foreign works in this special issue dedicated to residential architecture. This prompted the authors to recall the extensive discussions among our architectural critics about globalization and regional characteristics. In these discussions, although most praise regional features while viewing globalization as a trap, commercialized symbols are often inappropriately lauded as representatives of regional identity. Common ambiguities and confusions about the issue have led to a lack of a shared foundation and platform for the discourse. What this article aims to do is raise several overlooked questions and, in doing so, bring some order to the somewhat chaotic discussion.
