What should be done if you have strabismus?

Patient's question:

What should be done if a child has strabismus? This condition has been present for a long time, and I am very concerned about it worsening. Please provide some advice from a doctor.

Doctor's answer:

Strabismus refers to the misalignment of the visual axes of the two eyes, with conditions such as inward, outward, upward, or downward deviation. In normal individuals, both eyes should view objects straight and parallel. When focusing on an object, the image of that object falls on the fovea centralis of the retina in both eyes. Through the brain's fusion ability, the images seen by both eyes merge into a single perception. Surgical therapy involves adjusting the strength and attachment points of the extraocular muscles to bring the eye position closer to normal. Most cases of congenital esotropia and vertical strabismus require surgical treatment. Non-regressive strabismus with significant deviation is often also corrected through surgical methods.
