This international conference, jointly organized by the Supreme People's Court and the World Association of Lawyers, is highly representative and is known as the "Olympic Conference" of the world legal community. Following China's successful hosting of the 14th conference in 1990, the world-renowned World Legal Conference returned to China and achieved great success. President Hu Jintao met with distinguished guests attending the conference, and multiple national leaders attended the opening ceremony and key events. A total of 1-500 Chinese and foreign representatives participated in this grand event. Among the nearly 500 foreign representatives from over 60 countries, there were over 100 international dignitaries, including 34 chief justices or presidents of supreme courts, 4 ministers of justice, 25 justices or deputy justices, and the main leaders of 6 international institutions and organizations. The Chinese participants were mostly outstanding talents proficient in legal theory or practice, with high-level foreign language skills, representing the highest level of legal professionals from various industries and departments. Additionally, over 40 important legal figures from Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan also attended the conference. Through the joint efforts of the World Association of Lawyers and the China Organizing Committee of the conference, this year's event focused on the theme of "Rule of Law and International Harmonious Society." Through various activities and thematic discussions, the conference explored the profound meaning of the rule of law and its role and challenges in establishing a harmonious international society, reaching many important consensus, particularly the adoption of the widely influential and significant "Shanghai Declaration," which received praise from all parties, both Chinese and foreign, and was hailed as the most successful conference in the history of the World Legal Conference. To commemorate the holding of the World Legal Conference in China and record its fruitful achievements, this book, "Rule of Law and International Harmonious Society," is published for the reference of legal professionals in China and readers interested in this grand event. This book is a compilation of the 22nd World Legal Conference, covering important speeches by leaders during the conference, a photo collection, introductions to key events, media reports, and the presentation of important outcomes such as the "Shanghai Declaration." These materials provide readers with valuable and rare information and knowledge.
