Features: Modern College English Listening is a supplementary listening textbook for the Modern College English series, edited by Professor Yang Limin of Beijing Foreign Studies University as the chief editor. The entire series consists of four volumes, edited by Professor Jin Li of Beijing Foreign Studies University, and is designed for first and second-year English undergraduates in higher education institutions and other English learners with equivalent proficiency. This book is the second volume in the series, intended for first-year students in their second semester. It is divided into two parts. The first part is classroom listening (intensive listening), used in class. The selection of materials and exercise design are suitable for teachers to guide students in learning, accompanied by a corresponding teacher's manual. The second part is independent listening (extensive listening), completed outside the classroom. The exercises are all open-ended questions, and the listening scripts are provided at the end of each lesson. Referencing the requirements of the teaching syllabus, the difficulty level is roughly synchronized with Modern College English Intensive Reading. One of the features of this book is the rich and diverse language materials selected, which are closely related to real life and focus on the practical use of language, rather than simply pursuing the quantity of vocabulary. Emphasis is placed on understanding and mastering the content. Another feature is that the content is organized by topic. There are 15 units with 14 different topics (including News, which occupies two units), and it considers both an increasing level of difficulty and a gradual speed from slow to fast. This arrangement aligns with the requirements of situational teaching methods and is relatively suitable for listening instruction.
