Features: The protagonist, Dr. Kang, is born into a noble family, educated in Paris, and possesses both humanistic spirit and outstanding medical skills. However, in the more than a year after returning to Shanghai, he experiences a tragedy in life. Fate nearly strikes down this skilled surgeon who aims to heal the world—his life-saving efforts to save Hu Shansen are repaid with betrayal; his brother, the "nice guy," is inexplicably poisoned; his timid and cowardly classmate, Jia Fan, refuses to help at the moment of danger; the little Socrates who speaks truthfully becomes a thought criminal and is unjustly imprisoned; the emotionally attached Ling Meisha flutters around; the beloved Shen Daijun dies tragically in his arms; and even the brother who repeatedly calls him "Brother Kang" becomes his scapegoat in the end! The cruelty of life and the treachery of human hearts are almost unimaginable; Dr. Kang's Shanghai dreams—such as career success and a happy marriage—are shattered. Faced with all these setbacks, Dr. Kang raises the banner of human nature and responds with a spirit of humanity. His personal strength wins the trust of people, including those who slander and plot against him. It is precisely for this reason that the like-minded Shen Daijun willingly takes the bullet for him in an assassination attempt, and the lost sheep Guixiang, at the point of death, repents and reveals the truth about his brother being poisoned.
