Publish Date: 2006-09-01
Features: On June 2, 1927, Wang Guowei drowned himself in the Kunming Lake of the Summer Palace. The day before, he wrote poems on a fan, including two seven-character quatrains. These poems were later widely believed to be written by Wang Guowei himself, especially the line "To seek is a great challenge, heartbroken near the high towers," which expressed a deep sorrow and profound emotion, easily associating with the life story and thoughts of Jing'an (Wang Guowei's courtesy name). Some "learned" scholars even claimed the poems were by Li Xishan. In fact, the true author of these poems was Chen Baochen, the last "Imperial Master," while Wang Guowei merely felt moved by the poems and wrote them to express his sentiments.
