In 1979, she published her debut work, "Songs Taught by Mother," in Shanghai Literature, marking the beginning of her professional literary career. Her major representative works include novels such as Blue House, Poor Street, The Daughter's Code, and The Financier, all of which have been adapted into films or television dramas. Additionally, she has written over 5 million words of long novels such as Where Mountains and Waters Meet, short stories such as The Death of the Swan, and essay collections such as The Fragrance of the Pearl River and the Emotion of the Huangpu. Since 1991, she has been shuttling between Shanghai and Hong Kong, engaging in media and documentary writing, focusing on the differences and connections in culture, economy, and livelihoods between the two regions. Her notable works in this area include Love Across Two Cities and Old Hong Kong. She is a member of the China Writers Association, the Shanghai Writers Association, the Hong Kong Writers Association, and a member of the Political Consultative Committee of Shanghai for the 7th and 8th terms.
