Features: The purpose of publishing the "College English Test Band 4 (Revised Edition 2006)" is to help teachers and students understand the exam objectives, content, format, language skills and requirements of the post-reform Band 4 exam, as well as the new score reporting system and score interpretation. In terms of test composition, the reforms of the Band 4 exam are primarily reflected in the following aspects:
1. The weight ratio of the Listening Comprehension section has been increased from 20% to 35%. A new section of Long Conversations in Listening Comprehension has been added, and the Compound Dictation has been changed from an optional item to a mandatory question type.
2. The Reading Comprehension section has been expanded to include a new test of Fast Reading skills.
3. Vocabulary and grammar knowledge are no longer listed as separate exam items but are integrated into other sections for assessment.
4. A new test of Chinese-to-English translation at the sentence level has been added.
5. The proportion of constructed-response questions has been increased, while the proportion of multiple-choice questions has been reduced.
The reform of the College English Band 4 and 6 exams is a complex systematic project and an ongoing process of continuous improvement. The test committee will continue to research and develop new question types that can effectively assess students' comprehensive English application skills while being suitable for large-scale standardized testing. Additionally, the committee will study the impact of the Band 4 and 6 exams on teaching to better serve the needs of College English instruction.
