Publish Date: 2001-09-01
Features: This book is a world-famous classic of satirical literature, second only to Don Quixote. The author uses an extraordinary cartoon-like style to portray the hilarious experiences of the protagonist, Shu Ke, a highly witty ordinary soldier, from enlisting in the army to being sent to the front lines during World War I. This mercilessly exposes the disaster imposed on the Czech nation by the vast Austro-Hungarian Empire, making the authorities fume with rage while also evoking a knowing smile from kind-hearted people.
