Features: This is the first English translation of Sarah Kane's complete plays, bringing the dream of many Chinese drama enthusiasts to life. Her plays have been continuously performed worldwide, and similar dramatic styles can also be seen in the works of many avant-garde playwrights in China. Her works are also a focal point for students of drama and art colleges to stage and imitate. This year marks the 7th anniversary of Sarah Kane's death. Her play 4.48 Mental Health caused a sensation when it premiered at the Shanghai Theatre Academy, and she and her works have become hot topics in the theater world recently. This book is part of the "Theatre and Drama" series, and the other books in the series are also excellent: Mike Fahren's Plays by Mike Fahren, The Open Door: On Acting and Theatre and Peter Brook: Interviews by Peter Brook, and Ten Talks on Chinese Avant-Garde Theatre edited by Zhang Xian, all of which will be released. This book includes all five of Sarah Kane's works from her short life: Crash, Love and Other Drives, Clean, , and 4.48 Mental Health. 4.48 Mental Health premiered in October this year at the Shanghai Theatre Academy. The play borrows the story framework of The Sorrows of Young Werther to depict the psychological experience of a woman with depression as she contemplates suicide. The title is named after 4:48 a.m., which is considered the time when physiological mental breakdown reaches its peak and is most prone to suicide. These five plays form an artistic whole, representing each step of Sarah Kane's dramatic exploration. She portrays and reveals the most dark and merciless human inner world: the realm of violence, the realm of loneliness, the realm of power, the realm of mental breakdown, and the realm of unwavering love.
