Features: Folk culture is the oldest culture created by the masses, as its roots can be traced back to the earliest stages of human development; at the same time, it is the youngest culture, because it still thrives in the daily lives and oral traditions of the people. Folk culture is also the foundation of the entire social culture and possesses immense vitality, with high culture often being the result of selecting, transforming, and refining folk culture. Chinese folk culture is a cultural tradition passed down through generations, making significant contributions to the diversity of human culture. The Chinese Folklore Society hopes, through collective efforts, that the flowers of folk culture will bloom more vibrantly, bringing our motherland and our Chinese nation an eternal spring. Folk culture is a major component of a nation's spirit and an important cornerstone of national culture. Chinese folklore serves as a vital carrier of traditional Chinese culture, carrying forward the cultural lineage of thousands of years. In the face of the current tide of economic integration and cultural homogenization, how to protect our folk culture and ensure the continuity and healthy development of our nation's excellent cultural traditions in the new context have become an issue that cannot be ignored by our generation.
A person remains immersed in folk culture from the womb until death, and even long after death. Like air, it is an indispensable part of daily life. For society, folk culture is a bond for emotional connection, a symbol of mutual identity, a standard for regulating behavior, a glue that holds the group together, and a cultural tradition forged and passed down through generations. This book aims to introduce the basic knowledge of folklore within its limited scope, and on the basis of folklore theory, provides a concise account of the fundamental content of Chinese folk culture. At the same time, considering the current practical needs of protecting folk culture, the relevant content of folklore surveys is specially introduced in the appendix.
