Features: The original function of folding fans was merely to provide relief from the heat. However, once renowned artists create calligraphy or paintings on them, or if they are further adorned with the exquisite carvings of skilled artisans, their value far exceeds that of mere cooling. They then become carriers of other cultures, a development perhaps unforeseen by the inventors of the fan. As Mr. Wu Guanzhong aptly stated in his inscription for the fan art exhibition: "Fans provide cooling, unexpectedly becoming works of art." This book systematically introduces the appreciation of folding fans, the collection and preservation of fan handles, their maintenance, handling, and therapeutic uses.
