Features: At the end of summer in 2005, another group of boys and girls with youthful and innocent faces, their faces dotted with early breakouts of acne, crossed the threshold of Kongzhong, and thus, in the outbursts of various natural emotions and sentiments, the story unknowingly unfolded. This book records the campus life of a group of middle school students, including aspects such as study, life, and emotions. A city that one comes and does not want to leave—Chengdu, the ancient historical and cultural metropolis, stands an ancient building—Wuhou Temple. Next to Wuhou Temple is an equally ancient school—Kongming Middle School, commonly known as Kongzhong. The gate of Kongzhong, like Wuhou Temple, is a simple and elegant gate tower in the Ming and Qing architectural style, with red walls and green tiles, and dense trees. It is a school that many parents dream of, where sons are nurtured to become dragons and daughters to transform into phoenixes. The students who enter this renowned middle school are mostly the top performers from prestigious primary schools, and at least their parents are not ordinary.
When he was in primary school, Laoqiu was very popular and had many friends, but he only had one true friend named Junge. However, after primary school, Junge was admitted to another famous school. Though they were not separated by vast oceans or like the stars Altair and Deneb in the Milky Way, their meeting times became increasingly distant. Laoqiu was a very loyal person, willing to blend in like a monkey rather than soar alone like an eagle. For his friends, he would cross swords and fire, without hesitation! But Laoqiu didn’t know what happened—when he entered middle school, he searched high and low for friends but suddenly realized that the person he was looking for was right in front of him, in trouble.
Making friends for the first time cost him a scar on his face, and the price for making the second friend was small but disgusting. As the saying goes, "Destiny brings people together across thousands of miles, but those without destiny never meet face to face." Thus, two people from different worlds, two people with their own strengths, met by chance in this place arranged by heaven.
After nearly half a semester of the first grade, teachers had already assessed the strengths and weaknesses of students in each subject. To ensure balanced development in all subjects while also giving full play to students' talents, the school offered various "extra-curricular learning classes." Starting every Friday afternoon after school, each class lasted one hour, including the Computer Elite Class, English Improvement Class, English Consolidation Class, Literary Creation Class, Math Olympiad Gold Medal Class, Sports Superpower Class, and Music Genius Class—series of genius-boosting classes. According to the rules, each student could only sign up for one class. Laoqiu had already signed up for the Literary Creation Class, but he was arrogant, believing he had passed the primary school English Level 4 and feeling extremely confident, looking down on others. He decided to join the English Consolidation Class to act as a big fish in a small pond, tasting the of being the leader rather than the follower. However, the English teacher, Zheng Shili, refused.
This English teacher was beautiful, with an S-curved figure. Her English was as smooth as flowing water, and her voice was enchanting. Like Laoqiu, she had a unique black humor. If anyone didn’t take English seriously and provoked her, she would mix English and Chinese, spewing a pot of black humor that would make you wish you were dead rather than buried. Thus, her name, Zheng Shili, was humorously called "Kill You." But Laoqiu firmly believed that "Kill You" was a sharp-tongued but kind-hearted person. With his persistent persuasion and eloquent tongue, he convinced the "Old Zheng" (as students now called teachers, removing the character "shi," so teachers of any age were simply referred to as "Old [Last Name]") to let him join the English Consolidation Class to show off, thinking it wouldn’t be a problem. But the "Old Zheng" refused, and the registration period was getting shorter and shorter. So, Laoqiu resorted to a drastic measure.
"Hello, Miss ZHENG! Why do you work late every day?" In a flash, Laoqiu leaped from outside the English office and landed directly in front of the "Old Zheng." "Ah, isn’t this Zhao Qiushi? Coming to bother me again! If you really want to join the English Consolidation Class, it’s not impossible, but be warned that you might regret it. I must warn you in advance—there’s no end to suffering in this world, but there’s a way back. English is as bitter as honey mixed with quinine. Think it over. Don’t be overconfident and end up regretting it! I’ve already agreed, so do as you please. Goodbye!"
