Features: The term "era of image reading" had gradually gained popularity in China in the mid-to-late 1990s, primarily within the realm of popular culture. It was more evident in the transformation of the relationship between text and image, as well as changes in market demand, in publishing and media. However, when the "era of image reading," driven by market forces, profoundly reshaped the cultural communication landscape of contemporary China, research on image issues by the academic and intellectual circles lagged significantly behind. People seemed to easily attribute the rise of the visual culture center to the inevitable extension of popular culture's tendency toward flattening and sensory appeal, merely as an image feast within the fast-food culture.
