Features: This paper focuses on the vocal music of female roles (dan) in the Peking Opera "model operas." The entire work is divided into three chapters.
Chapter 1 discusses the formation of Peking Opera and the development of the art of female roles (dan). It covers two aspects: First, it outlines the artistic characteristics of the old actor (laosheng) and their vocal music, as well as the historical background of the evolution of female roles (dan) and their vocal music during the era of their development. Second, it summarizes the development of Peking Opera's "costume plays" and the emergence of modern Peking Opera, as well as the formation of the "model operas."
Chapter 2 discusses the artistic characteristics of the female role (dan) vocal music in the early "model operas."
Chapter 3 discusses the artistic characteristics of the female role (dan) vocal music in the later "model operas."
Through the analysis and comparative study of the female role (dan) vocal music in the Peking Opera "model operas," this paper concludes that the development of the "model operas" reflects the transformation and evolution of Chinese opera music—specifically Peking Opera—as a traditional art form under new historical conditions. The prominence of the female role (dan) vocal music demonstrates that the creative process of Peking Opera music has entered a broader developmental space, reflecting the high degree of integration between traditional Peking Opera vocal music art, modern music art, and world music art.
