Features: In the vast garden of Chinese painting art, masters of the Haipai school have been competing for attention. Among them are those who achieved fame swiftly by absorbing the essence and soaring ahead, as well as those who endured hardships and gradually gained recognition through relentless effort. The author of this art book is a dedicated cultivator in the world of calligraphy and painting—a renowned Chinese calligrapher and painter, Mr. Zheng Mukang, who has passed away. Zheng Mukang, styled Yuan and Xuan, was known as Mukang and also used the pseudonym Chenghua Pavilion Master. He was born in Chaoyang County, Guangdong Province in 1901 and passed away in Shanghai in 1982 at the age of eighty-one.
Zheng Mukang's grandfather was a local physician, skilled not only in traditional Chinese medicine but also in calligraphy. His prescriptions were so well written that they were likened to powerful and elegant works. Zheng Mukang lamented not having preserved a piece of his grandfather's calligraphy, which became a lifelong regret. His lifelong friendship with painting can be traced back to this origin.
