Features: In the history of modern Chinese literature, the 1930s literature (1927–1936) had a special relationship with political culture. Many important literary works from the 1930s clearly showed politicalization in their themes and ideological tendencies in their subject matters. At the same time, they implied a mechanism of political power operation, which broadly involved the political intentions of different parties, communities, and even individuals, and used this as an intermediary to influence and constrain the basic direction of 1930s literature. This book attempts to genuinely recreate the political and cultural atmosphere in which 1930s literature was situated, and to study the political control of the Nationalist regime in the 1930s, the operation of its cultural institutions, and the resulting widespread political psychology, political consciousness, and political values, using accurate and detailed historical materials. Through this, it aims to understand the actual responses of various literary factions to these conditions and the different literary strategies they adopted. By revealing the special political and cultural context, it seeks to find important evidence for many literary phenomena of the 1930s (including the behavior of writers, characteristics of works, significant literary debates, literary factions, literary paradigms, the formation of literary styles, and so on), in order to achieve an accurate grasp and comprehensive and fair evaluation of 1930s literature.
