Features: Water is the source of life and the fundamental condition for human survival. It is an indispensable material basis for developing production, prosperity of the economy, and ensuring the sustainable development of human society. However, natural changes and human existence and development have brought heavy crises to the world of water. With climate change and the development of human society, especially since the Industrial Revolution, activities such as excessive water exploitation and arbitrary discharge of wastewater have led to severe damage to water resources. The water resources available for production, life, and environmental use on Earth are approaching their limit. Based on a review of the current status and development of domestic and international research on water resource restoration and compensation, this book clearly defines the concepts and connotations of water resource restoration and water resource compensation for the purpose of restoration. Utilizing the principles and laws of the natural water cycle, it elaborates on the mechanism of water resource recoverability and explores the intrinsic relationship between artificial restoration activities and the restoration of water quantity and water quality. Subsequently, it focuses on discussing theories and methods related to water resource restoration and compensation, such as value compensation, competitive water use compensation, water environmental protection compensation, and water source conservation and protection compensation. Taking the Capital Circle region as an example, it provides an empirical analysis of water resource restoration and compensation issues. The research in this book was supported by the scientific research project "Research on Rational Compensation Mechanism for Water Source Protection" of the China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research.
