Biology and Christian Ethics

Author: (English) Stephen R. L. Clark

Features: This book explores the relationship between modern biology and Christianity. To what extent has modern biology influenced the views of Christian ethics? To what extent should Christianity accept the theories and practices of modern biology? Is animal evolution guided by a transcendent value? Do boundaries between species truly exist? What is the essence (Nature) of each species, including that of humans? The author criticizes figures such as Richard Dawkins and Wilson in the book. He argues that these individuals have misused the name of science to reduce ethics to an evolutionary phenomenon or a sociobiological impulse, and based on this distortion, they have claimed what constitutes human morality. The author also criticizes some scientists and theologians who have contributed to the tension between humans and the biosphere today. His conclusion is to return to the ancient traditions of Christianity, believing that traditional Christian perspectives are more capable of addressing the relationship between humans, animals, and the environment than modern science and modern theology.
