Features: This book has the following characteristics in general:
1. Innovation in the structural system. The book is divided into four major parts: General Principles of School Physical Education, Physical Education Curriculum and Teaching, Extracurricular Physical Education, and School Physical Education Management. It aims to establish the fundamental categories of school physical education theory from a macro level. In the respective chapters of the second-level parts, it not only integrates, deepens, and develops traditional stable theoretical content but also supplements a batch of new research findings in recent years, expanding the boundaries of traditional theoretical research. It strives to place school physical education in the context of modern society, grasping its basic connotations and trends with a more open and macro perspective.
2. Timeliness and novelty of content. The content of each part and chapter has been enriched with a large number of hot topics in school physical education research in recent years, absorbing high-level research results primarily in the form of doctoral theses, increasing the book's sense of the times and technological content. Examples include school physical education and lifelong physical education, school physical education and mass communication, the functions and re-examination of goals in school physical education, physical education curriculum theory, new explorations in physical education teaching principles, research on physical education teaching interaction, physical education teaching methods, physical education teaching evaluation theory, university competitive sports, research on physical education teachers, and school physical education environment issues. These contemporary and vibrant new contents not only enrich the textbook but also primarily aim to better align with current school physical education practices, striving to more effectively and fully fulfill its guiding role, while also providing new starting points for subsequent research by students and researchers.
3. Integration of theory and application. School physical education theory, by its very nature, is an interdisciplinary and applied theory designed to guide school physical education practice. The new system constructed in this book has shifted away from the previously low-level, application-focused, and operation-oriented characteristics of multiple versions of "School Physical Education." It appropriately raises the focus, selects textbook content, strengthens generalization, and leans more toward theory in the integration of theory and application methods. However, the theoretical explanations in the book are as rich and vivid as possible, closely linked to school physical education practice, and supplemented with examples, cases, and explanations.
4. Professionalization and youthfulness of the writing team. The writing team of this book consists of a group of middle-aged and young scholars from China who specialize in school physical education research, coming from physical education or normal universities in ten provinces and cities across the country. Among them, there are 6 professors, 6 associate professors, and 3 lecturers, with 95% holding doctorates or being doctoral students. The average age is under 40. Most have been engaged in school physical education teaching and research for over a decade, with three having experience studying or working abroad. During the writing and research process, the book involves multidisciplinary theoretical knowledge from philosophy and methodology, educational sciences, physical education humanities and social sciences, physical education technology disciplines, and sports human biology and other fields, as well as referencing and absorbing the research findings and experiences of numerous predecessors. Whether in terms of involvement or absorption, due to the writing team's experience and level, there may be instances of inappropriate use, superficial understanding, or errors. We kindly request criticism and corrections from peers and students.
This book is primarily intended as a teaching text for the "School Physical Education" course offered to undergraduate majors related to physical education in national physical education universities and normal universities, preparing physical education teachers. It can also serve as a reference book for master's students in physical education humanities and social sciences and for graduate students specializing in school physical education. Additionally, it can be used as a self-study reference book for in-service training of physical education teachers in primary and secondary schools, as well as a reference book for school physical education administrative departments.
