Features: In the early days of modern media, its basic function was merely to disseminate information. The emergence of capitalist production methods objectively created a large demand for commercial and industrial information, as well as political information, which in turn stimulated the development of media. This provided a broad space for the spread of ideas, paving the way for the Enlightenment and the bourgeois revolution. During the bourgeois revolution, media that represented the interests of the bourgeoisie began to gradually oppose and criticize the powerful feudal centralized system, and were committed to supervising the exercise of state power. This allowed democratic elements within the media to take root. During this period, the media became the voice of society and the people, reflecting their concerns and demands through news reports, newspaper commentary, and other means, to some extent becoming an important way to express public opinion. From the bourgeois revolution to the present day, the right of media to supervise public opinion has become increasingly important in society and has become the "fourth power" in Western societies, following legislative power, judicial power, and executive power. It plays a significant role in supervising state power, especially the dominant power among them—legislative and executive power. Early American democratic figure Thomas Jefferson once profoundly stated: "I deeply believe that the best way to prevent such improper interference by the people is to provide them with full information about their own affairs through public reporting and strive to ensure that these newspapers reach all segments of the population. Public opinion is the foundation of our government, so our primary goal is to preserve this right." As a result of its significant value in promoting the realization of the right to supervise public opinion, "freedom of the press" was established in the constitution.
