Features: Yao Erfan was born in the US-occupied zone of Germany and currently teaches at the Berlin White Lake University of Art and Design. The Visual Communication Department at this institution does not adopt a single mentor studio system. Therefore, this book focuses on reflecting the teaching characteristics of multiple instructors jointly teaching in the department. Yao Erdan graduated from the Düsseldorf University of Art and Design and was a student of Joseph Beuys. He has tried many professions: teacher, silk-screen printer, writer, photographer, filmmaker, and politician. He returned to France in 1976 and worked at Grapus until he received national honors. In 1991, he joined NTE. In 1993, he became a professor at the Berlin White Lake University of Art and Design and the head of the Visual Communication Department. Shi Gang Yingzi defines design as: 1. Eternity; 2. Revolution; 3. Originality. I would like to recommend her design philosophy to Chinese design classrooms. This triangular concept embodies explanations in design academia regarding technology, courage, creativity, and cultural heritage. You may disagree with my statement of elevating design to an academic realm, but the existence of design education itself is an acknowledgment of design academia. Design is a systematic discipline with teachable and learnable history and theory, and it continues to develop toward countless possibilities. The pillar of academic research is the scientific spirit. Understanding this spirit is akin to designers realizing that every design is first a job. This way, when you see a three-month crash course in graphic design in the newspaper again, you can’t help but smile knowingly. Hegemann, Yao Erdan, Les, Josel, Mattis, and Wasilieki professors are undoubtedly outstanding graphic designers of this era. This series of books introduces their understanding of design and their methods of design education. What is most important is that the book also introduces the creations of young designers influenced by them.
