Features: Western Medieval Art is a treasure of the human spirit, presenting an extremely rich and diverse appearance. Chronologically, Medieval Art spans a thousand years of history; geographically, it covers a vast area from the Black Sea coast in the east to Britain in the west, from North Africa in the south to Scandinavia in the north. In the history of art, no period has such a vast temporal and spatial span, forming such a colorful artistic landscape. Medieval Art is a "culture of God," much like a great cathedral, where murals, mosaics, sculptures, illuminated manuscripts, decorative arts, and handicrafts form the decorations of this magnificent "church." The author of this book, George Zanetti, is a renowned Western expert on the history of Medieval Art and a professor of Art History at the University of London. He has held positions such as Vice Director of the Courtauld Institute of Art, Slade Professor of Fine Art at the University of Oxford, Visiting Scholar at the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton, and Vice President of the London Society of Antiquaries. With profound knowledge and numerous publications, he has achieved remarkable accomplishments in the study of Medieval Art. The translator, Chen Ping, was born in Nanjing in October 1954. He obtained a Master's degree in Art History and Theory from the China Academy of Art in 1990 and a Ph.D. in Fine Arts from the same institution in 2001. He is currently a professor and department head at the Department of Art History and Theory, Shanghai University of Art and Design.
