Currently, he holds the position of Chief Physician at the Military Medical Refinement College of the General Hospital of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, Director of the Institute of General Surgery, Chairman of the Academic Degree Determination Committee, Leader of the Expert Group of the General Hospital of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, Member of the International Society of Surgery, Former Director and Chairman of the Biliary Surgery Group of the Chinese Society of Surgery, Honorary Committee Member of the Medical Technology Committee of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, Council Member of the China Medical Foundation, and Editor-in-Chief of the Chinese Edition of the American Medical Journal. Professional Level 1, Administrative Grade Special.
Huang Zhiqiang was the first to focus on the research of China's multiple and difficult diseases, "intrahepatic bile duct calculus." In 1957, he published the report "Analysis of 80 Cases of Bile Duct Stones," and in 1958, he reported the use of liver resection to treat intrahepatic bile duct calculus, pioneering the application of liver surgery techniques to solve biliary problems. In 1963, he established China's first integrated medical, teaching, and research liver and biliary surgery specialty, which developed into the first liver and biliary surgery technology center in the entire army in 1978. In 1973, he first comprehensively and systematically discussed "hepatic and biliary calculus" internationally, proposing the relationship between hepatogenic glucuronidase and the formation of hepatic and biliary calculus, and proving that biliary infection, biliary obstruction, and biliary stasis are the main causes of intrahepatic bile duct calculus formation. In the 1960s, he pioneered the study of the impact of surgical trauma on the suprarenal sympathetic endocrine system in China and was the first to apply the concept of surgical minimization to clinical practice.
He compiled 17 authoritative works, including "Surgical Surgery," "Biliary Surgery," "Hepatic Surgery," "Huang Zhiqiang's Biliary Surgery Surgery," and "Huang Zhiqiang's Biliary Surgery," which have had a profound impact on the growth of several generations of surgeons in China. He has won more than 40 scientific and technological achievement awards and published over 250 papers. In 2000, he was awarded the National Science and Technology Progress First Prize, which was the only first prize in the pharmaceutical field during the "Nineth Five-Year Plan" period. In 2002, he received the Major Contribution Award for Professional Technology from the four headquarters of the Chinese People's Liberation Army. He was successively named as an Outstanding Teacher of the entire army and a "Master of the Generation" of the General Logistics Department. He was awarded two second-class meritorious citations and two third-class meritorious citations. Now, at the age of 81, Academician Huang still remains on the front line of clinical practice, personally performing surgeries on stage, guiding the trend of 21st-century surgery. He was the first to recognize and propose the concepts of surgical minimization and minimally invasive surgery, which led to the widespread application of less invasive surgical techniques such as laparoscopy in China, largely replacing conventional surgery and having a profound impact on the growth of several generations of surgeons in the country.
