"
Dad, please look at my report card."
Listening, my child: While you were sleeping, I wanted to say something to you. The way you looked in your dreams was truly adorable: small hands resting on your rosy cheeks, golden curls stuck to your slightly sweaty forehead, and you were smiling sweetly in your sleep. Dad quietly sat by your bedside, gazing at you—just a few minutes ago, while Dad was reading the newspaper in the study, a wave of regret washed over me, making it hard to breathe. With a guilty heart, I came to your bedside. Dad thought of too many things. My child, Dad was too harsh with you! Too strict! When you were getting ready for school, I scolded you loudly just because you quickly washed your face; when your shoes weren’t clean, I lost my temper again; and when you accidentally spilled shoe polish on the floor, I flew into a rage and yelled at you. At breakfast, Ily criticized you, blaming you for spilling the plate, eating hastily, resting your elbows on the table, and putting too much butter on the bread. You left the house amidst my splashing saliva, rushing off to work. After getting on the bus, you suddenly emerged from somewhere and waved to me from under the bus, calling out lovingly, "Goodbye, Dad!" I was angry that you didn’t hurry to school and glared at you, shaking your fists. At night, everything started over. On my way home from work, I saw you kneeling on the ground playing marbles, your long socks already torn in several places. I immediately picked you up from the ground and took you home in front of your friends, humiliating you in public. I then raged: Socks cost money—if you earned your own money, you’d know how hard it is to earn it! Think, my child, how could a father say such a thing! Child, do you remember? After dinner, I was reading the newspaper in the study, and you timidly walked in, your eyes filled with a look of. I was impatient with your interruption. You hesitated at the door of the study, but I couldn’t help but yell: "What do you want now?!" At that moment, you didn’t speak, looking at me with bewildered eyes, as if scared. After a moment, you suddenly ran over, hugged my neck, and kissed me, tears welling in your eyes. I couldn’t believe that my harshness couldn’t break the love of a father. Such love would even move God. Then, you hugged me tightly with your small arms, let go, and stared at me with your tear-filled eyes, pouting your lips without saying a word, and quietly turned away.
