Zheng Zi Tong

Author: Zhang Zili et al.
Publisher:
Publishing Date: 1996-07-01
Features: The compilation of ancient Chinese character books in our country began with Erya, Fangyan, and Shuowen, and after passing through various dynasties, a monumental work titled Zhengzi Tong emerged. Of course, from the perspective of modern lexicography, like other ancient character books, Zhengzi Tong undoubtedly has many limitations. However, compared to earlier and contemporary works of a similar nature, Zhengzi Tong made some relatively progressive advancements in terms of the ideological concepts and practical operations of character book compilation. Zhengzi Tong exhibits a strong sense of standardization and pays attention to absorbing new achievements in traditional Chinese language and literature. It demonstrates progress in recognizing the concept of word-based entries and has a wide range of lexical selections. The facsimile edition of Zhengzi Tong presented here is based on the edition published by Hongwen Academy in the ninth year of the Kangxi reign (1669). For the convenience of readers, this book includes a four-corner number index for character heads. This is hereby stated.
