Features: The Wuyi Mountains are one of the most renowned biodiversity preserves in southeastern China, serving as a refuge for many ancient relic plants, many of which are endemic to China. The scenic gorges along both banks of the Jiuzhou River are beautiful, with numerous temples and monasteries, though many have long become ruins. The region provided a favorable geographical environment for the development and spread of Neo-Confucianism during the Tang and Song dynasties. Since the 11th century, Neo-Confucianism has had a profound influence on the culture of eastern China. In the 1st century AD, Han Dynasty rulers established a large administrative capital near Chengcun, surrounded by thick, solid walls, which hold significant archaeological value.
