Features: ★ Jiang Weiwei, a recipient of the Young Architects Award from the China Institute of Architects, wrote Architectural Decoration and Socio-Cultural Environment based on her doctoral dissertation. First, the book analyzes the problems in existing Chinese and Western concepts of architectural decoration, redefines the concept of decoration, and proposes the concepts of "essential decoration" and "additional decoration" from the perspective of the relationship between decoration and the architectural body. It also summarizes its three functions from a philosophical height: practicality, beautification, and expressive meaning. Second, through a specific analysis of the influencing factors (technological, economic, and aesthetic) on the evolution of modern Chinese architectural decoration since the 20th century, as well as the relationship between the evolution and alternation of "essential decoration" and "additional decoration," it proposes that the relationship between decoration and socio-cultural environment is one of consistency and interaction under complex and intertwined ideas. Third, Architectural Decoration and Socio-Cultural Environment affirms the value of decoration in architecture and believes that, given the current trend of architectural diversification, buildings with decoration will occupy an important position. At the same time, it addresses the problems of decoration in architectural practice, advocating for "returning to fundamental principles" and promoting "rational decoration," summarizing the philosophy of "rational decoration" into four principles: the principle of contemporaneity, the principle of regionalism, the principle of popularization, and the principle of economy. Finally, the book validates its core theories and viewpoints through specific engineering practices.
