Features: The post-reform College English Listening Test (CET-4) has undergone two main changes: First, in terms of question types, the dialogue section has been expanded to include longer dialogues, while Compound Dictation and Short Passage Comprehension have been changed from optional (choose one of two) to mandatory types. Second, the weight has been significantly increased, rising from 20 to 35. Although longer dialogues are a new type of question, they essentially test candidates' ability to grasp the main ideas of the conversation and capture key details. In response to these changes, this book aims to reveal the underlying principles of the CET-4 listening test, logically categorize the key assessment points, and provide targeted training, enabling candidates to directly hit the core of the exam and pass it with ease—this is what we call "one-stop success." The features of this book can be summarized in the following aspects:
(1) Key Point Analysis: Clear and Comprehensive
In this book, we provide a detailed analysis of the key assessment points of the CET-4 listening test, helping candidates understand the intent and purpose of the test creators. This analysis differs from the typical, simpler question type analysis by focusing more on the types of abilities being tested. We categorize these key points into five aspects: phonetic assessment, semantic assessment, sentence-level assessment, discourse-level assessment, and comprehensive assessment.
(2) Self-Assessment: Accurate Positioning
The standardized self-assessment tests provided after the key point analysis are designed to help candidates gauge their own proficiency and actual mastery of the knowledge mentioned above, allowing them to identify gaps and weaknesses. To this end, we have carefully designed a score statistics table for the self-assessment tests and a comprehensive analysis table for ability assessment. The first table categorizes question types and assessed abilities, while the second table lists detailed types of ability assessment and evaluation criteria, followed by practical learning suggestions.
(3) Key Point Training: Targeted Approach
After completing the standardized self-assessment tests, candidates will have a clear understanding of their weaknesses and can then address them effectively. The key point training in Chapter 4 provides targeted materials for "addressing weaknesses." The questions in this chapter are representative, with concise explanations and focused content, avoiding the pitfalls of "cramming" and enabling candidates to approach the exam with precision, achieving twice the result with half the effort.
(4) Comprehensive Simulation: Immersive Experience
After completing the key point training, candidates will gain confidence and be eager to test their skills. The five standardized tests in Chapter 5 provide an immersive exam-like experience. These tests strictly adhere to the new syllabus guidelines, selecting materials from VOA, BBC, CRI, and even the latest TOEFL exam, processing and designing questions that not only meet the standards of the CET-4 but also reflect authenticity and timeliness.
