Features: Wang Duo (1592–1652), styled Juesi, was also known as Songqiao, Chian’an, and Yan Tan Fisherman. He was from Mengjin (now Mengjin, Henan). In his childhood, his family was extremely poor, living a life of "not being able to afford two bowls of porridge in a day." In 1622 (the second year of the Ming Tianqi reign), he passed the imperial examination and was successively promoted to the position of Minister of Rites. Wang Duo lived during a turbulent era with a volatile career path. In 1644, Li Zicheng captured Beijing, and the Ming Chongzhen Emperor committed suicide on Jingshan Mountain. Ma Shiyin and others in Nanjing enthroned the Prince of Fu as the Eastern Pavilion Grand Secretary. After the Ming fell, Wang Duo surrendered to the Qing Dynasty and was granted the positions of Minister of Rites and Academician of the Hongwen Academy, along with the title of Grand Guardian of the Crown Prince. As a former Ming official who became a new noble in the Qing court, Wang Duo was despised by Ming loyalists who valued integrity, and he remained melancholic for the rest of his life. After entering the Qing service, Wang Duo held office for eight years before dying of illness in his hometown in 1662. Wang Duo's calligraphy primarily drew from classical model scripts, emphasizing the study of ancient masters. He repeatedly practiced ancient scripts such as the "Chunhua Pavilion Scripts," "Shaoxing Mi Scripts," "Jiang," "Tan," "Daguan," and "Baojin Qi Calligraphy Collection."
