Features: The guzheng, pipa, erhu, and dizi are widely loved folk instruments among the people. Since the 1950s, folk instruments have seen unprecedented development in terms of standardized and systematic teaching, the richness of themes and diversity of techniques in musical composition, the continuous maturation and advancement of performance techniques, as well as the reform and large-scale scientific manufacturing of instruments. It is particularly noteworthy that in recent years, with the continuous popularization and development of folk instrument teaching nationwide, the study and understanding of various folk instruments have become an excellent tool for musical enlightenment, folk music education, mass entertainment, and cultivating temperament.
The experts and scholars who compiled this series, in their respective teaching fields, especially in their interactions with amateur students, often encounter the following issues: Students often have limited knowledge but strong curiosity about basic musical knowledge related to musical performance, fundamental theoretical knowledge of instruments, and how to improve musical cultivation and expressive ability. Although there are numerous books on these topics, students often struggle to know where to begin, especially for younger or amateur students. It is indeed challenging to expect them to browse through a large volume of musical books amidst their busy work and study schedules. For parents who almost daily urge their children to practice, it is even more so.
So, could a series of books be compiled with the following focus: Targeting enthusiasts and learners of folk instruments—beginner, intermediate students, especially amateur students and their parents—the series would adopt a question-and-answer format, using simple and accessible language and expressions to introduce relevant musical knowledge, basic methods and appreciation of musical performance, cultivation methods for musical quality, and solutions to common problems encountered during the learning process. This would facilitate the popularization and dissemination of folk music among the general public.
