Publication Date: 2006-03-01
Features:
1. The World Knowledge Yearbook (2005/2006) introduces the world's political and economic situation in 2004 and the basic conditions of countries (regions). The materials are generally up to the end of 2004, with a few entries updated to early 2005. Some materials on the CD-ROM are updated to the end of 2005.
2. While maintaining the original volume and format, this year's edition strives to include new materials reflecting changes in the current year, compressing content that remains unchanged over the years, making it easier for users to access basic information while gaining more dynamic data. It also aims to increase practical materials for international exchanges. To expand information and more timely reflect the latest developments in countries worldwide, this volume continues to include a CD-ROM with the book. The book covers general overviews of countries (regions), international organizations, intergovernmental multilateral institutions, and international conferences. The CD-ROM includes highlights of international news, a chronicle of major world events, and some statistical data.
3. Based on the People's Republic of China National Standard "Codes for Names of Countries and Regions in the World" (GB/T2659-2000) issued in 2000, this yearbook collects the basic conditions of over 200 countries and regions worldwide. The order of countries (regions) follows the method of previous editions, arranged by geographical location: Asia, Africa, Europe, the Americas, Oceania, Antarctica, and the Arctic. Some small islands are distributed among the continents as appropriate. Within each continent, countries (regions) are arranged in the order of their Pinyin names.
4. All the data in this yearbook comes from different sources. While efforts have been made to verify and standardize them during the editing process, inconsistencies remain unavoidable. The translations used are as widely accepted as possible.
5. Many organizations and individuals have provided assistance and support during the editing and publication of this yearbook. Gratitude is expressed to all of them.
6. Given the broad scope of this yearbook, the compilers' capabilities are limited. Flaws and errors are inevitable, and readers and experts from all fields are welcome to point them out.
