Features: This textbook is designed based on the Occupational Disease Prevention Law, "rooted in the national context," fully utilizing domestic resources while also incorporating advanced foreign experiences "actively aligning with international standards." We hope this textbook will not only help students develop practical abilities to independently analyze and solve fundamental problems in the discipline but also cultivate their innovative spirit to embrace challenges of the 21st century. To adapt to the development of the discipline and practical work needs, as well as to align with important academic concepts and disciplinary systems internationally, adjustments, supplements, and updates have been made to the chapter structure, content arrangement, and the use of certain terms in this edition, based on the previous version. To embody the discipline's purpose—seeking harmonious unity and mutual promotion between "work" and "health"—the main tasks, foundational knowledge (occupational physiology, occupational psychology, and occupational pathology), and methodologies (occupational epidemiology, occupational toxicology, and occupational ergonomics) of occupational health and occupational medicine are first elaborated, along with a description of occupational populations' exposure (production hazards) and health effects.
To fulfill the tasks of occupational health and occupational medicine, it is necessary to identify and evaluate occupational hazards to control risks, actively explore predictive pathways and methods to achieve early prevention, and provide diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and labor capacity assessment to integrate occupational health and occupational medicine. Occupational health services and workplace health promotion are the fundamental guarantees for achieving "occupational health for all." The textbook introduces occupational health laws and regulations and supervision systems in China and some other countries, placing a significant emphasis on safety in occupational health and occupational medicine. The practical section includes content such as occupational health supervision and management, occupational health investigation and evaluation, production environment monitoring, and biological monitoring. In addition to the newly compiled material, some content from the fourth edition has been retained. To encourage self-study, reference books are listed at the end of the book for further reading.
