Features: Architecture is both an ancient and a young discipline. Many students, when entering university to study architecture after high school, often do not know the correct learning methods. In fact, architecture is a highly interdisciplinary field that requires students to develop a well-rounded set of qualities. This comprehensive quality includes both artistic and technical literacy, with the most important aspect being the cultivation of creative abilities. However, in the initial stages of architectural studies, it is still necessary to master some fundamental skills. These skills are part of both artistic and technical literacy and serve as important means of expressing creative thinking. It is precisely out of an understanding of the of lower-level architectural teaching that the authors have compiled a selection of outstanding assignments for first-year architecture students, providing a reference for those just beginning their studies in architecture. This series includes four volumes: Sketching and Drawing, Watercolor and Gouache, Architectural Composition, and Architectural Design. During the compilation process, we first collected outstanding assignments from the "Eight Old Schools" of architecture. Then, we organized renowned experts from various specialized disciplines to review and select the assignments. From the excellent works provided by the "Eight Old Schools" architectural schools, we further selected the best of the best, choosing a set of assignments that hold reference value. Therefore, these assignments can be said to represent the higher level of lower-level architectural education in China in recent years.
