What should I do if my child is picky eater?

Patient's question:

If food is swallowed too quickly, or if the diet is too hard or sticky, it is easy to experience difficulty when swallowing. The child is afraid of eating.

Doctor's answer:

Poor feeding practices during infancy, rapid swallowing of food, and a diet that is too hard or sticky can easily lead to difficulties during swallowing. This can cause frictional damage to the throat and esophageal mucosa, resulting in local mucosal congestion and edema, or mild fibrosis and hyperplasia. These issues may cause swallowing pain, as well as stimulate the nervous system, leading to a fear of swallowing food. A diet consisting of liquids and semi-liquids is recommended for daily consumption, such as millet soy milk, minced lean meat, vegetable and fruit juices, and egg custard, among others. It is important to drink plenty of warm water.
