Makiyo Kishida - Unbuilt / Anti-Architecture History

Features: This book introduces the anti-architecture theory and project works of the renowned Japanese architect Kishio Suga. The unbuilt is part of the material world of the 20th century and shakes the real architectural world. Without the unbuilt, there can be no architectural history of the 20th century. Because the unbuilt has not been realized, it has not been polluted by the material world and can always be interpreted freely. This book, published at the beginning of the 21st century, proposes an antithesis: architectural history (i.e., architectural narration) is composed of non-temporal things. Kishio Suga's language is always ironic; he once said that "anti-architecture" is, in fact, architecture itself. That is to say, only "anti-architectural history" is "architectural history." Kishio Suga began his career in the second half of the 20th century, when the media was accelerating its development. Time no longer always moved forward in a straight line but occasionally flowed backward. This book introduces representative unbuilt works from his 40 years of design, every decade. When the next millennium arrives, most of the existing buildings of the 20th century will no longer exist. How will architectural historians look back on the 20th century? Only a few physical historical materials will be passed down, and the information stored in the media will become the basis. Future generations may, however, discover the precursors of 21st-century architecture in Kishio Suga's unbuilt works.
