Part I, Rock and Geological Processes, primarily introduces the engineering properties and classification of rocks, common physical geological phenomena and geological processes, adverse engineering geological conditions and their impact on engineering. Part II, Soil Mechanics, mainly describes the fundamental theories of soil mechanics, including the physical and mechanical properties of soil, soil stress, foundation deformation, bearing capacity, stability, and earth pressure. Part III, Foundation Engineering, primarily covers the design and construction of building foundations and subgrades, including geotechnical investigation, shallow foundations, pile foundations, caisson and pier foundations, foundation treatment, and dynamic machine foundations. Part IV, Geotechnical Problems in Adverse Geological Conditions and Special Soil Types, provides a concise introduction to regional special soil types in China, including foundation engineering in seismic zones, slope stability, collapsible loess, red clay, expansive soil, fill soil, soft soil, frozen ground, saline-alkali soil, and mountainous rock and soil foundations. This book serves as a reference for civil engineering surveying, design, and construction professionals, as well as faculty and students in civil engineering programs at universities and colleges.
