Features: After thoroughly studying the viscoelastic mechanics of asphalt mixtures and the meso-mechanical behavior of composite materials, we must address the issue of improving the material parameters or performance of asphalt mixtures. This inevitably involves the composition of the components, namely the design of mixture gradation, asphalt content, and void ratio; it also involves the improvement and control of the performance of the components themselves, such as the performance of aggregates, mineral fillers, and asphalt; it requires studying the addition of new components, such as fibers; and it also considers the interaction between components. Only in this way can we ensure that the designed asphalt mixture meets the usage requirements. Broadly speaking, the science of improving material performance is material science. This is the origin of the book's title and its research objective. The author hopes that the principles of asphalt viscoelastic mechanics and material science principles elaborated in this book will help promote the research on asphalt mixtures in China from empirical to in-depth scientific research. More importantly, the author hopes it can serve as a starting point, inspiring thoughts and broadening horizons, helping everyone correctly understand the fundamental relationship between "pavement usage environment - mixture mechanical performance - pavement damage," thereby addressing the issue of early pavement deterioration we face in reality.
