Patient's question:
Hello doctor, the progesterone level in the newborn's neck is a bit high now. What causes high progesterone in the newborn's neck?Doctor's answer:
Newborn heel blood is collected, and the blood drop test is commonly used to detect genetic or hereditary diseases. Abnormally elevated 17-α-hydroxyprogesterone levels are generally considered positive when: for full-term infants weighing >2.7 kg, the level is >30 nmol/L; for infants weighing 1.5-2.7 kg, the level is >40 nmol/L; and for infants weighing <1.5 kg, the level is >50 nmol/L. A positive screening result suggests the possibility of congenital adrenal hyperplasia. Due to the presence of false positives in screening (such as blood collection within 24 hours after birth, SGA or preterm birth, and other disease-related factors), the diagnosis cannot be confirmed solely based on the screening results. A follow-up test is required.
