Features: My main purpose is to design as much from the inside out and from the mainland as possible. My work is basically based on construction, use, and function, while also influenced by contextual relationships such as people and places. There is a strong integrated relationship between the internal process of the Charing Cross intersection, the Vauxhall Cross intersection, or the internal and external contextual relationships of any other building. The architect's task is to develop form, and the form must conform to both function and context. This is not a matter of choosing between the two but of satisfying both, which requires higher skill and creativity. Doing so will create a more hybrid language and a culturally cross-pollinated architectural type. However, attempting to create a work that simply conforms to a single principle—whether architectural or functional—is a simplistic avoidance of reality. This is not only a stylistic prejudice but also a way of oversimplifying the issue; it makes it so easy that an important part of the integrated relationship is actually eliminated. I am passionate about architecture that can evoke reactions such as support, applause, and love, bridging the gap between elites and the general public through architecture. Focusing on the issues of the general public and high-level cultural levels is a major challenge today. I think that as we enter the new millennium, the view that architecture is an art will gradually be recognized, and it will also develop a greater interest in the environment—not just on the green level but also on the level of context and urban personality. I am very optimistic about this high-level game of architecture, as it is gaining the appreciation of a broader audience, and I believe that the status of creative architects will continue to rise in this transformative process. —Terry Farrell, excerpt from the introduction Terry Farrell's monograph includes 44 projects, with over 350 photographs and drawings, most of which are in color.
