Features: China has over 60,000 hospitals (including health centers), forming a vast healthcare service system. As humanity enters a new century, China has also entered a new era. Hospitals at all levels in China are undergoing profound reforms in the medical and healthcare system, placing new demands on management. The reforms in the basic medical insurance system for urban employees, healthcare system, and pharmaceutical production and circulation system are being advanced in sync and are deepening. With China's entry into the WTO, medical institutions will attract more domestic and foreign capital, technology, and advanced management methods. A new healthcare service system with coexistence of multiple ownership forms and operational models, and fair competition will gradually take shape. As socio-economy develops, the demand for healthcare services is growing rapidly, and the public's expectations for healthcare services are rising. Hospitals, as the primary providers of healthcare services, are a crucial platform for implementing social security systems, a focal point of healthcare system reforms, and inevitably a key area of public attention. It can be said that China's medical institutions face both favorable development opportunities and severe challenges. How to seize these opportunities, meet the challenges, develop in competition, and provide high-quality and efficient services to the public, creating both social and economic benefits, is the key issue addressed by this new edition of Hospital Management.
Management is both a science and an art. Qualified hospital managers must master the scientific principles of hospital management, understand advanced international management theories and methods, while emphasizing exploration and innovation to enhance their management capabilities and level. They should refine their management skills and art in practice. Hospital management is a science that must be continuously enriched and developed through practice. Therefore, as hospital reforms deepen, it has become a growing trend for hospital managers to seriously study hospital management science, explore management theories and methods that align with China's actual hospital work and development patterns, summarize and exchange practical experiences in hospital management, and promote the cultivation of professional hospital management teams. However, as a science, hospital management has only been developing in China for a relatively short time. Among current hospital managers, many have not received systematic training in hospital management. Internationally, the development of hospital management is advancing rapidly, and catching up with the pace of hospital management in developed countries still requires effort. The task of improving China's hospital management science system and cultivating a professional hospital management team is extremely challenging.
To this end, under the care of new and old leaders from the Ministry of Health and the Health Department of the General Logistics Department of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, the Chinese Hospital Management Association and the Hospital Management Research Institute of the Ministry of Health organized over 200 experts and scholars from across China's hospital management field. Referencing a vast amount of literature, they compiled this Hospital Management, which includes 15 volumes: Introduction, Quality Management, Teaching and Research Management, Human Resource Management, Operational Management, Information Management, Hospital Culture, Nursing Management, Pharmaceutical Management, Clinical Laboratory Management, Medical Imaging Management, Medical Records Management, Hospital Architecture Management, Medical Equipment Management, and Logistics Management. It is the most comprehensive hospital management monograph in China to date. It aims to systematically and comprehensively introduce the latest theories and advancements in hospital management both domestically and internationally, while closely aligning with China's hospital management practices. Based on the objective needs of hospital reform, innovation, and development, it summarizes China's theories, experiences, and methods in hospital management, making the book systematic, advanced, and practical. It can serve as both teaching materials for on-the-job training and continuing education for professional managers in the field of hospital management, as well as a reference book for medical schools' health management programs, and a daily reference for hospital managers. It is hoped that the publication of this book will promote the development and improvement of China's hospital management discipline, enrich its theoretical landscape, contribute to the advancement of China's healthcare industry, modernize hospital construction, and cultivate hospital management talent.
The book covers topics such as Management and Hospital Management, Hospitals and Hospital Management, Health Law and Medical Institution Management, and Regional Medical Planning and Hospital Management.
