Features: From ancient times to the present, water features and bridges have taken on countless forms and have been widely used and developed in landscape design. "Water brings distance, and scenery gains life from water." Water, with its inherent qualities of being both soft and hard, dynamic and static, bright and dark, virtual and real, swift and slow, is often used in composition to borrow sound, form, color, create shadows, contrast, highlight, and harmonize different architectural environments, thereby constructing novel and unique garden scenes. Indeed, garden water features are not boundless; they are composed of specific water types and shore types. Water types are typically categorized into pools, waterfalls, streams, springs, beaches, decorative tanks, and swimming pools, among others. Shore types, on the other hand, are generally built to follow the terrain, including peninsulas, islands, embankments, points, and shores. Different water types and shore types can be combined to create a variety of water features. The combination of water types and shore types follows no fixed rules but offers endless possibilities. Designers should comprehensively consider the concept, composition, and context to provide visitors with a holistic sensory experience of sight, sound, and more. Bridges and stepping stones, which form part of the shore type landscape lines, serve to connect, permeate, and divide spaces. Therefore, in practical applications, it is essential to consider the coordination of color, form, style, and the surrounding environment to enhance their role in highlighting and complementing the scenery. This book is divided into six major parts: Still Water, Clear Streams, Waterfalls, Water Curtains, Springs, Small Bridges and Stepping Stones, and Swimming Pools. It collects over 400 exquisite color illustrations from around the world, fully showcasing the elegance of still water with abundant water features and orderly spatial arrangements; the purity of clear streams that cleanse the mundane and allow passage over gentle slopes; the occasional grandeur of waterfalls with cascades thousands of feet high; springs that spray water columns, splash over rocks, gush from the ground like pearls, or flow gently as trickles; small bridges and stepping stones that balance practicality and aesthetics with diverse forms; and swimming pools with clear waters and tranquil surfaces, embracing a pool of emerald green. Most of the examples in the book are successful works worth referencing, while a few may require further consideration. Readers are encouraged to judge for themselves.
