Jennifer Siegel is a pioneer, advocate, and practitioner in mobile architecture design. She is the founder and chief designer of OMD (Okinawa Mobile Design), an ambitious architectural and design studio dedicated to the development and construction of mobile and ecological architecture. Siegel received her Master's degree from the Southern California Institute of Architecture in 1994. In 2003, while serving as a Loeb Fellow at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design, Siegel systematically explored and researched the use of smart, kinetic, and lightweight materials.
Jennifer Siegel's work includes a series of highly influential assembled architecture projects, including portable homes and swellhouses, which were exhibited at the 2003 Triennial at the renowned Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum under the theme "Design Core"; they were also featured in the exhibition "The Familiar Stranger: Design and Everyday Life" at the Walker Art Center. Jennifer Siegel's design philosophy has been widely disseminated by media such as The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. In 2003, when Esquire magazine named her one of the "Most Outstanding and Clever Architects," Siegel's innovative designs in assembled architecture and green architecture, with their keen insight and professionalism, attracted strong attention from numerous international professional media. That same year, the New York Architectural League included her in the Advocate Program for New Ideas.
Siegel is a full-time professor at the School of Architecture at Woodbury University, Los Angeles, and the editor-in-chief of "Portable Architecture," a reference guide for architects on mobile environmental art. She is also the editor of the monthly publication "Monthly Materials," which will be released in 2005. This book introduces recent works by Jennifer Siegel's firm in the United States, where Siegel is a pioneer, advocate, and practitioner in mobile architecture design. The firm is dedicated to the development and construction of mobile and ecological architecture. The book provides detailed introductions to over a dozen of the firm's design projects, including numerous working sketches and computer model analyses during the design process. This book offers great reference value for planners, architects, and interior designers in China, as well as students and faculty of relevant universities and colleges.
