Features: When Liu Haisu wrote the preface for World Nudity Photography (1988), he stated: "The art of the human body has a long history. Long before the Christian era, the sculptures of ancient Greece were masterpieces of the dawn of human culture, and ancient Rome also valued human body sculptures. The rich heritage of human body art became the source of European art. After the long night of the Middle Ages, the Renaissance gradually restored the art of the human body from the brink of extinction. Since the rise of classicism, the human body has served as an object of aesthetics, a subject of creation, and a means of fundamental training, playing an irreplaceable positive role to this day."
Over the centuries, art schools abroad have offered courses on human model teaching. In China, modern art education introduced life drawing with human models starting from pioneers like Li Shu Tong, and this practice has spanned eight to nine decades. Practice has proven that offering life drawing courses is highly beneficial for both the foundation of art education and the enrichment and development of modern civilization.
To meet the needs of art schools across the country for human model teaching and creative reference, we have organized the shooting and publication of this small album, Practical Human Model Photography. The album is divided into four poses: lying, standing, kneeling, and sitting. Most poses are captured with panoramic, four-directional still shots to help learners gain a comprehensive and accurate understanding of the movement patterns of the human skeleton and skin in a particular pose.
The images are all shot by professional models from Chinese art schools, following teaching requirements, ensuring standardized poses and healthy appearances. The photography pays attention to aspects such as lighting placement, tonal control, and texture effects—key elements of modern photographic art—to better reveal and express the youthful beauty, health, and vitality of the human body, making the images highly appreciable.
