1993 Interrogation Table / 1994 Cancelled Performance (Russian Booker Prize Novel Series)

Author: Liu Wenfei
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2003-09-01
Features: This is a table covered with felt, with a long-neck glass bottle placed in the center. Behind the table, a row of interrogators usually sits. The protagonist of the novel has been interrogated by them hundreds of times. Eventually, the protagonist becomes alienated, unable to live without interrogation; only when sitting at the interrogation table does he feel real. Finally, he sneaks into the familiar room late at night and, for the first time in his life, sits at the interrogator's seat. Overwhelmed with joy, he collapses onto the table and dies. This writing style is quite reminiscent of Kafka's flavor and depth. The author was born in 1937 and is a very famous writer from the former Soviet Union. He was hailed by critics as "the Gogol of the modern era" and is one of the few renowned writers whose creative passion, style, and emotions remained largely unchanged after the dissolution of the Soviet Union.
